Marine Biology

A LEVELS: Biology and another science subject.
JOBS: Marine biologist, animal trainer, animal behaviourist, zoo keeper, researcher, conversationist.

Marine biology is a scientific subject, based around studying marine animals – animals that live in, around or close to the sea. You would study the environments they live in, how animals adapt to those environments and how animals can be successful in adapting to those environments. You would also study different animals, their behaviours and bodies, how we classify them (so how do we know a shark is a shark?) and how animals have changed over time. You might also look at which animals are at risk, why that is and how scientists are trying to stop it. As well as looking at animals, you would also look at much smaller life forms in marine spaces, like coral reefs.
